Iran planning naval presence in Latin America

BANDAR ABBAS, Apr. 02 (MNA) – Major General Salehi noted that Iran seeks to prepare for mighty presence in Latin American waters.

Iran’s Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi on Saturday said Iran’s Navy is preparing for a mighty presence in Latin American waters and conveying the message of peace and friendship.

Speaking during the welcoming ceremony of the 38th flotilla that was on a mission to Gulf of Aden and the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb, Salehi hailed Navy’s capabilities, saying “we could modernize and upgrade the Army fleet over the past years, relying on experience as well as our domestic industrial and military power."

Senior commander said special plans have been devised to reinforce the Navy in the new Iranian year and equip it with advanced gear.

Navy reinforcement is aimed at enabling the naval forces to take bigger steps in naval voyages, Salehi added.

"The aim of presence in faraway waters," he underlined, "is to display Iran’s naval power to the world and carry out joint operations with ally countries in other regions."

Salehi noted the world has now recognized the Iranian Navy as a 'power', adding Navy’s powerful presence in international waters shows its efforts to safeguard and protect the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran across the world.
